Let's Play Ball!

After the Spring Scrimmage was over, we headed down the river (yes, most of Baylor's athletic facilities is along the Brazos River, which is rather picturesque) to the softball stadium where our Lady Bears were hosting Missouri.

The Lady Bears have had a phenomenal season thus far and even won two out of three at #4 Arizona last month. I believe they are currently ranked #17 but they're really good. One plus is that pitcher extraordinaire Whitney Canion is back. Last year she suffered a season ending elbow injury that required surgery and extensive rehab. Thankfully, it hasn't slowed her down a bit. Not even a little.

We also have another amazing player named Dani Leal who is from Mexico City. Dave really likes her because they apparently struck up quite the conversation while the team was touring the NICU week before last. Most of the women's teams have taken that tour this season so Dave has lots of interesting tidbits about these athletes. :-)

Unfortunately, Dani injured her ankle (just a sprain) during practice the day before the game so she was in a walking boot but she did come in to pinch hit. I'm not sure if she's back on the diamond full-time yet but do know those sprains can take a while so we're praying for her recovery.

Now Missouri is ranked #11 and they are really good. We ended up splitting the series with them (no shame in that!) and, in fact, the game we attended is the one they won. We had already left, though, because those puppies just will not let themselves out to potty. :-)

Because of the sun, we purchased seats instead of using my faculty ID so we ended up sitting next to the Missouri players' families. Normally that's not an issue but the pitcher's mom was a wee bit out of control. In fact, she made me look calm, cool and collected. And that's saying a lot! It was a good lesson to me (as my daughter is starting volleyball again) that a stellar performance by a child can be overwhelmed by ugliness from said child's parent...

Anyway, it was fun to see these ladies in action. They took both games in the series at Tech yesterday so I can't wait to see what else they have in store this season. Would be awesome to attend a Super Regional next month!
