Dancing Pants

The second grade had an end-of-school poetry recital on Tuesday morning. Each student had to memorize a poem and either dress up use props while reciting it. Tay's poem was entitled Dancing Pants and it was really cute. Part of the words were "from the seat to the pleat/they'll dance to the beat/with no legs inside them and no feet beneath." Like I said, super cute!

So her prop was a pair of embellished Bobby Jack jeans (really, could we have used anything else?) on a hanger...and she made them dance while she was doing the poem. She did a REALLY good job--not a single moment's hesitation and she remembered all of the words perfectly. In addition, she spoke very loudly and clearly...I was really impressed.

While it was awesome, the poem was also very short so I only have two pictures to share. I was trying to capture the 'dancing pants' and, as you'll see from the blurry picture, she was making them dance extremely FAST!

Perspective

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Steven Curtis Chapman today as they have suffered an unspeakable tragedy. I cannot imagine living through the loss of a child and I also cannot imagine what is going through his son's mind as he accidentally ran over his 5-year-old sister. May the Lord bless and keep them during this time.

As for us, we don't have a lot going on right now. Tay's betta passed away yesterday (after only being with us for a little over a week) so we're thinking he wasn't the healthiest little guy in the tank. We will be shopping for a replacement this weekend. While this was a traumatic event for Tay (she thought she'd done something to hasten King Fredward's passing), learning of the Chapman family's tragedy keeps things in perspective.

I will be hugging my little one tighter this evening...

Two in One Day!!

Yes, yes, I know...two posts in one day. Can you tell I was excited to get some pics off of my phone? Tay and I went to the park one Saturday last month. It was one of those days that I needed to clean house and do laundry all day but Tay insists that we do 'one fun thing' each Saturday, which isn't a bad thing as it breaks up the chores.

Anyway, this particular day she chose to go to the local park and wanted to take her newest stuffed animal, who was uniquely name Pandie (he's a panda). While she adores any and every type of stuffed toy, we don't usually think outside the box when we're naming them. She has so many now, though, that it's becoming more difficult to keep up with who's who :-)...

Enjoy the pics of Tay and Pandie...please note the braided pig tails...they are apparently our new favorite hairstyle!!

Academic Fair

We went to the Academic Fair at school last night and it was really a lot of fun. Each of the second grade classes were assigned a region and created a huge mural on the wall. The region Tay's class was assigned was the rain forest. While all of the other classes just did the mural and called it quite, Mrs. Metz went the extra mile--as always!!

They class was split into two different shifts (one from 6-6:30pm and the other from 6:30-7pm) and then the kiddos each had a part assigned to them. Tay's was about the canopy layer of the rain forest. The kids had a paper button hanging around their neck and would only talk when someone pressed their button. It was funny to see them interact with each other because they would push the button, wait for the presenter to get halfway through a sentence, and then push it again. This resulted in little ones standing there frozen with their mouths hanging open. It was really funny!!

I did take some pictures (aren't you proud of me?) and I'm hoping they came out ok. I also saw the huge washtub she was chosen out of her art class to paint last night. Apparently, she worked on it for a couple of weeks but kept it a big secret so we would be surprised. It's quite detailed and has flowers and a sky painted on it. They decorated the lawn behind the school with them. I'll get a picture of that next time.

How about them 'Stros?

We drove to Arlington this weekend to see the Astros take on the Rangers. While our hope had been that we'd see Oswalt and the 'Stros emerge victorious, it simply was not meant to be. We did have a great time, though, and stopped at Tay's favorite restaurant--Joe's Crab Shack! She loves popcorn shrimp but we also managed to get to try the seafood fun-do and it may just be her new favorite dish at the shack.

Tonight we're heading to school for her Academic Fair. They are doing a presentation on the rainforest and she's very excited that she gets to wear a microphone around her neck! I'll try to take a pic with my phone so that you can see her in action.

We're also working to perfect her poem, Dancing Pants, as the second graders are hosting a poetry recital next Tuesday. Last but certainly not least, her class won second place overall in Field Day last Friday. She was very proud of their accomplishment...apparently, they did really well in everything except Tug-of-War. They won one contest but got drug around pretty good in the next three. They didn't get a medal or anything, though...I didn't know it was actually legal not to give the kiddos some type of trinket after they worked and sweated all morning...

Stay tuned this week as Tay has lots of end of school activities we'll be reporting on...only 9 more days of school before she graduates to third grade! Surely I'm not old enough to have a third grader, right?

Viruses are no good...

Tay and I were working on her blog this weekend and guess what happened? Apparently there was some dirty HTML script that we copied and pasted when updating the music on her page...needless to say, our home computer is no longer working!!! After a call that lasted over AN HOUR to AT&T/Yahoo yesterday, we've learned that this may be a costly little adventure so the odds of you finding music on this page again are probably not great :-)...

Anyway, Tay's doing fantastic and got clearance from the ortho doc on Friday to begin participating in sports and PE class at school. Hopefully, that's the last broken arm we ever have to experience. It wasn't much of a fun experience!

I'm not attaching pictures for a couple of reasons...one is that I'm at work and don't have many with me but the main reason is that I want to make sure none of them were corrupted when our computer became sick. Stay tuned, though, as it should be up and running in a week or so...

One of these days...

One of these days, we are going to get a digital camera and the blog will be filled with fabulous pics of Miss Taylor. The good news is that's on the slate for summer purchases...in the meantime, I thought a few oldies but goodies would keep Tay's spunky personality in the forefront.

Things are clicking right along with us these days. I started a new job at Baylor University (my alma mater) this week and I absolutely love it!!! There's nothing more in a job that I could ask for and Tay really likes all of the perks (like the bowling alley and rock climbing wall...can you tell where we'll be this weekend?)
