Fourth on the Brazos

After attending the Belton Fourth of July Parade with Boppy and having lunch with Nana and Boppy at Mazzio's in Temple, Tay headed back to Waco for some fun at Fourth on the Brazos. We had not attended this event since she was 9 months old so, needless to say, she had more fun this time and the offerings had changed quite a bit.

After promptly buying a patriotic hat with the money Nana gave her (thank you!), she began taking in all of the booths. She loved the caramel apple samples from Rocky Mountain
Chocolate Factory, colored a whale at the Art Center tent, returned to the Art Center tent to make a colonial hat, walked across the Suspension Bridge for the first time
, had her picture made by the paper that was later put online (cool, huh?), jumped in the bounce houses, bought a glow necklace (I found out too late that it was a pacifier...wouldn't take one as a baby but will at age 8 1/2?), and got lots of freebies from the credit
union booth.

Whew, that made me tired just typing it!!

Anyway, we then went straight down to the riverwalk and sat on the side (so close our toes were in the water) and waited for the fireworks. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. My very patient child (lol) then decided we could watch from the parking lot. So we headed over and they came on the radio saying they'd had a malfunction and weren't sure when they would start. Not good...

Luckily, though, they began just as we were about to leave so we hopped out of the car and stood in the middle of the road during the show. Tay thought they were "awesome" and that she had "the best seat in the house." Dave and I thought the best part was that we missed ALL o the traffic and got out very easily. Guess it's all about perspective :-)...
Needless to say, she had a BLAST and passed out as soon as her little head hit the pillow...

The Herbie Car

A couple of weeks ago we had dinner at Poppa Rollo's, a local pizza joint that shows old movies and--on Friday evenings only--has a magician who does his act tableside. Tay was absolutely amazed by the magician and even got a souvenir as she got to keep the Queen of Diamonds she had autographed to ease her mind he wasn't cheating!

Another neat thing about this place is that they have a Volkswagen Bug painted just like Herbie was in the movie.
They have it sawed in half and usually it looks like the front
half is coming through the outside wall while the back half has just crashed through. Tay loves this car and was really excited the last time we went because they had placed both the front and back ends together so she could sit in it and take some pictures. Enjoy!

Patriotism, Take Three

glitter-graphics.com

Happy Fourth of July Eve to all! Tay is heading to Nana and Boppy's this afternoon so she can attend the Belton Fourth of July parade tomorrow morning. So we decided to make our Patriotic Popcorn Cake last night. It's basically a GIANT popcorn ball that you place in a bundt pan for shaping. Oh, and you mix in red and blue M&Ms to complete the red, white and blue feel. It turned out really well and even came out of the pan in one piece--miracles never cease!

Our masterpiece!

Patriotism, Take Two

glitter-graphics.com

I was again reminded this morning that I'm to put patriotic graphics on Tay's blog for everyone to enjoy this week so I hope you like the choice...it was done in honor of Muffin!!

Tay had a BLAST at the fast food progressive dinner. They went from Wendy's (appetizer) to Burger King (main dish) to Dairy Queen (dessert). Apparently, they had too much fun visiting and laughing together to make the planned stop at Jack in the Box for side dishes. Taylor made some new friends before I even left the church and really enjoyed the responsibility of carrying her money and paying for her purchases. She even came home with change!!!

Tonight we're making a patriotic popcorn cake, complete with red and blue M&Ms...can you say Fourth of July?!?! I figure anything with marshmallow creme in it can't be too bad. The recipe says to add red and green candies for Christmas, brown and orange for Halloween, etc. So we're hoping it turns out well :-)...

Happy July!

glitter-graphics.com

Happy July to all! I'm a bit bummed today as I only have 18 more days until I turn 30...worse things have happened to me, though, so I'm sure I'll survive. The best is yet to come--that's my motto and I'm sticking to it!!!

Tay enjoyed a lazy weekend and is now back in rare form. It's funny because last week she was so excited about VBS that it's all she talked about. This week she's catching me up on all of the field trips they had at summer camp last week. For instance, I now know all about Kung Fu Panda, which she enjoyed a GREAT deal. Aunt Erica got her Master Shifu this weekend, which is Po's (panda) sidekick. Needless to say, we've been learning kung fu...or some version of kung fu anyway.

Tonight she's heading to church for a fast food progressive dinner, which I think is a really cute idea. On Thursday, she's heading to Troy so she can go to the Belton Fourth of July parade on Friday morning. Then she'll head home for Fourth on the Brazos, the fireworks show in Waco. Hopefully, it'll be a quiet weekend since there are no golf lessons this week. This summer's just been so hot that it's exhausting!!! Bring on the fall...

Ok, stepping down from soap box :-)...I was instructed to begin putting patriotic graphics on the blog beginning on July 1st and going through July 4th...so enjoy as they're compliments of Miss Taylorbug!!!
