Whirlwind

Yes, I am still blogging though I would imagine there have been some thoughts to the contrary this week. It's kind of been a whirlwind and I can't say my family and I will be sad to see this week go because it's been R-O-U-G-H.

On Sunday (after I got to Louisiana for my grandmother's surgery), I learned that our friend Brandi, who's been battling breast cancer for 4 years had passed away. She is so much better off, y'all, but she left behind a husband and three children - ages 7, 11 and 16. We attended her funeral yesterday and I promise to share more about this amazing woman soon but I just don't have the energy today.

My grandmother's surgery went well but she did end up in ICU for much longer than we had anticipated due to some internal bleeding, which was complicated by her need for blood thinners due to recent heart stints. She is much better now and was moved to a room this afternoon. We are very blessed but it was hairy there for a bit.

As you already know, our sweet Bo passed away on Tuesday and that was so incredibly hard for Dave and the rest of us. Honestly, I know that many will read that and scoff but our dogs are literally a part of our family. My man was beside himself, the other dogs were moping around and I held my girl as she cried herself to sleep while staring at his picture. It was time but it was not easy and was only compounded by everything else going on this week.

We do have a new addition to our family, though, as of yesterday. He certainly won't replace his older brother but he will be very much loved and he's brought a bit of joy to this otherwise very difficult week.  And without further introduction, may I introduce Rambo?

Life Lessons at a Birthday Party

A birthday at the fair is a lot like life - there are rules you must follow...

...treacherous paths to cross...

...ups and downs...

...twists and turns...

...and scary moments when you least expect them.

You will invariably come upon some adventures that you realize simply aren't for you...

...some full of bumps and bruises...

...and others that provide unexpected thrills...

...and pure, unadulterated J-O-Y!

Sometimes the 'round and 'round seems like it won't ever stop...

...but there is power in overcoming one's fears, isn't there?

Other times you are convinced that you left your stomach behind...

...when you jump before looking...

But no party - or fulfilled life - would be complete without surprises around the corner...

...that make you realize just how simple it can be...

...because He has made ALL things wonderful...

...and all will come to fruition in His perfect timing...

Once Upon a Birthday Party

Once upon a time there was a 'tween named Taylor

Who decided upon a hot pink and zebra striped birthday theme for to celebrate her 11th year

Her mother - a lover of all things animal print and psychadelic, promptly set about making this dream a reality

And annoyed everyone within a 50-mile radius while working on every minute detail

But, in the end, it was totally worth it

Because sweet Taylor had a fantabulous party and was only embarrassed by said mother once (as she was celebrating the Baylor victory - clearly it was a moment that needed to be marked WITH GUSTO)

There was food, fellowship, fun and crafts to be had by all

And the evening that began at Poppa Rollo's (after an afternoon of rides at the HOT Fair) ended with a movie, popcorn and a sleepover

Now that another year has been successfully marked (and photographed), the fair maiden embarks upon the most difficult of decisions for a 'tween girl - figuring out how to best spend her birthday money :-)
