Our third day at Disney began with all three of us dragging ourselves out of bed (we were still a bit tired and cranky - see Day 2 post) for breakfast at Chef Mickey's. This restaurant is at the Contemporary Resort so we rode the bus to the Magic Kingdom and then jumped on the monorail. But not before Tay did a little early morning stretching...
Our first monorail ride - no, we were not there when the monorail crashed. And, no, I still don't know how that could even happen because we never even saw another train on our track any of the times took advantage of this speedy transportation...
The cool thing about the Contemporary is that the monorail runs right through it (this is the hotel we stayed at when I was six...after throwing up all over my clothes before we even began eating at the Hoopty Doo Revue dinner show, my dad had to lend me his shirt...so he rode the monorail back - half naked - with a sick little kid sporting his duds...Tay talked about that story every time we rode the monorail, which was rather amusing....)
Anyway, we pulled in and saw this as we were walking toward the escalator...
We checked in and were told it would be 15 minutes, which I thought was great because we were a bit early. Turns out the hostess misspoke and she mean that we'd be seated within 15 minutes of our reservation time. Either way, we sat there a whole lot longer. Long enough to get bored enough to start taking pictures of the scenery...
Don't we look happy? More like hungry!!
This dude was pretty cranky about this time as well...he looked at me and asked, 'And whose idea was it to do this for eight days? It's only day three and I'm worn out...'
After this picture, Dave traded places with Tay (apparently he figured out he was going to be in every single picture if he didn't) and then slyly suggested to the little one that I should be in all of the pictures with her.
Oh, how I love him...let me count the ways...
Anyway, someone's mood certainly made a U-turn after getting a little Goofy love...
Next up was Donald...
After Donald, Tay made a quick run to the dessert area because she'd spied giant tubes of gummi bears, which are one of the food groups in our house. Well, actually not anymore since we started working out all of the time, but she and I still love them dearly.
May I present to you what she deemed Siamese bears?
Minnie Mouse was next to visit our table (the random dancing got them off kilter a bit so we waited a while but it was all good because I needed all the coffee I could get at this point)...
I told Dave that he absolutely had to take a picture with Minnie Mouse. I mean, seriously, he's a dude so he had to have had a crush on her at some point, right? I regretted that decision a bit when he told Minnie to "come here, sexy" right as the restaurant apparently observed a moment of silence.
Yeah, it was loud, y'all. But funny too...
Finally the man we'd been waiting for all along (at least that's the what Tay would tell you) came over and made my little one's day. She's a big fan of Pluto (and any other dog in the world as well) so she was really excited to add his name to her book...
Since we were so close to the Magic Kingdom, we decided to simply take the monorail back the other way and try to hit some of the highlights we'd missed on Sunday. Well, not only did we hit a few highlights but we pretty much conquered the Magic Kingdom this day...except for the fireworks which were saved for later in the week...
We started with Peter Pan's Flight in Fantasyland and, although the line was a little longer than we'd have liked, we made a very important purchase while in this line. We bought a spritzing water bottle that had a fan attached to it. And the cast member who sold it to us filled it with ice.
Heaven.
It definitely made the rest of our days more enjoyable and may have even been able to make Animal Kingdom bearable. Questionable but possible, I suppose...
She tried to pull the sword out of the stone but I guess my girl is no King Arthur...
Then we rode Snow White's Scary Adventure, which really wasn't all that exciting, but it was a ride nonetheless. We headed over to see Mickey's Philharmagic 3-D show afterward and, even though Dave was afraid it would be all Fantasia (he's not a fan), it wasn't and was actually really cute.
We headed over to Winnie the Pooh's Adventure and picked up some Fastpasses. We also got Surprise Fastpasses for Mickey's Philharmagic so we took in a second show. Hey, it was air conditioned and starred Donald Duck. My family could not have asked for more...
Can you spot Piglet in the tree?
We then took in another show - Carousel of Progress - which was really neat. Not only did the building spin around but we also caught a glimpse of Buzzy Lightyear on the way...and it was air conditioned. Score!
We took in the Stitch's Great Escape show right about this time. My child watches Lilo & Stitch every single morning while I'm getting dressed so she was 228 kinds of excited and watching her little face light up was definitely worth sitting through this show/ride/adventure. For sure.
We were going to see Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor but we were kind of showed out so...
Next up was Aladdin's Magic Carpets (think Dumbo but a magic carpet) over in Frontierland. We found another character on the way...
Aladdin's Magic Carpets had giant camels who spit on you throughout the ride. It got me every single time and, even though Dave and Tay thought differently, I didn't care one bit. It was hot!!
We were heading back to use our Fastpasses on Winnie the Pooh when I saw the sign for the Country Bear Jamboree. Even though I thought he'd had enough shows for the day, apparently another of Dave's childhood dreams was to see this one so we stopped in and took in the show. Loved it!
Then we headed over and jumped into a giant honey pot for a little adventure through Pooh's world. This ride was great and had excellent visuals. Tay loved the part where you rode through his dream...
She really didn't want to take this picture but after she and Dave had a bit of a "talk" I didn't have any issues getting her to pose for the rest of the week so I shouldn't complain...
After the Pooh ride, we decided it was time to use our "go to the front of the line" coupon. Tay chose Splash Mountain and we happily walked back to Frontierland because, as I think I've mentioned before, it was 862 degrees in the shade.
Not only is this a water ride but it tells the story of Brer Rabbit and is really very cool. When you come back from the giant water drop, Brer Rabbit is welcomed home with a rousing rendition of "Zippity Doo Da," which is a childhood favorite of mine and Tay now loves it as well. I may have even heard Dave humming a bit...
As soon as we got off of the ride, it came a flood. I diligently planned and packed our backpack every morning and it included Tay's autograph book, Sharpie marker, camera, extra batteries, towel, hand sanitizer, wet wipes and the all important ponchos. However, we had left those ponchos in the backpack inside the locker at the front of the park.
We didn't care a lick, though, because we were actually cool. And we were literally singin' in the rain. It was awesome...
So we made it back to our locker, grabbed our backpack and hopped onto the bus back to the hotel.
The weather had cleared by the time we got back and it was very comfortable out. We were starving, though, so we had dinner in the food court at the hotel (can I tell you about the awesome food they had?) before heading back to the room for the evening.
We were all pretty tired from our full day...
Here's Miss Thang modeling her first Disney purchase. After careful deliberation, she'd chosen it the night before after we returned from our cranky and abbreviated trip to Epcot.
Next up: Hollywood Studios, Downtown Disney and Planet Hollywood
