The Pier was Delightfully Pleasureful

One of the things we'd been most looking forward to during vacation was hitting up Pleasure Pier. Tilman Fertitta (someone I knew back in my previous professional life and owner of the Landry's chain) tore down what was left of the Flagship Hotel (major hurricane damage) and has built a really awesome place complete with carnival rides, a Bubba Gump Shrimp Company and lots of kiddo activities.

The sunset that evening was beautiful and we actually got to see a lot of it on our very long walk to said pier. Someone misjudged the distance by a wee bit when parking. :-)

Because of his numerous head injuries from bull riding, Tonto doesn't do carnival rides. The girl and I, however, will ride just about anything. We started small, though, with the ferris wheel. Where we decided to just take pictures...

...and enjoy the view of the Iron Shark. Please know that I have never met a rollercoaster I won't ride but this thing was kind of scary. Maybe it was the lack of any type of restraint other than a lap bar or maybe it's because of the 100 foot free fall but - either way - it was awesome.

We rode everything that will get your heart rate up and one of us (that would be me) got caught in the splash zone of the log ride as well. That was not cool, friends, but Tonto did amuse himself while the adrenaline junkies were at work by watching numerous people get caught off guard.

And after riding everything at least twice, we finally decided to try out Bubba Gump. Now everyone else might know this but I didn't actually realize they serve - basically - only shrimp. I expected a full selection of seafood, I guess, but that wasn't the case. It was still really good, though, and I would definitely eat there again. For the excellent atmosphere, if nothing else.

All in all, this was a super fun evening after spending another full day at the beach on and the illustrious hammock. Knowing the next day was our last full one in paradise was depressing but eventually you have to go home, right? :-)
