The Rest of the Story...

Last Sunday afternoon we headed down to the Heart o' Texas Coliseum to see the PBR Touring Division event. For those of you who don't know (or maybe just thought I was kidding in my last post), Dave is actually a former bullrider. Hey, I never told y'all I loved him for his brains, now did I?

Oh, I jest...

Well, sort of...

Anyway, the PBR doesn't come to this area too often and we don't really like the real rodeo (you know, calf roping, steer wrangling, etc.) as we just like to watch intelligent folk jump on top of a 1500 pound animal with nothing in his tool arsenal but a rope. Just call us simpletons.

So we gussied up in our Sunday finest...seriously, when is the last time you saw Tay in a skirt on this blog?!?!
...and took Davey out for his weekly outing. Times do get lonely when you're on bedrest so we try to help him out on the weekends.

We had to spring for box seats given that our companion is still sporting crutches on a consistent basis (Monday come quickly!) and this was our view...no zooming here, folks...this is the real deal...

Because I'm a picture dork, I decided to try for a little impromptu photo shoot. See how excited the other subjects were about this?

By the way, when you download your pics from a PBR event and have to edit out some of the height of your hair before they can see the blog, you may just need to PUT DOWN the teasing comb. Maybe.

Before long it was time for the real excitement to begin and, as all who follow the PBR know, you must begin with some pyrotechnics during the introductions...

By the way, if you watch Amazing Race (we don't but many do, I'm told), you totally know the guy above. It's Cord McCoy, who is on the show with his brother and - if I understood correctly - he's doing quite well...

We enjoyed the great entertainment, which was provided with a better than average rodeo clown except for the point when he flung a fake skunk at me as part of his schtick. Let's just say it doesn't look fake when one is looking through their camera lens.

We also watched a number of cowboys jump to safety on the railing, which my husband tells me is the hardest part about bullriding. At one point, this gate failed and a very large bull raged into the cowboy dressing area. Thankfully the pick up man galloped in behind him and saved the day. It was amusing to see so many cowboys run so stinkin' fast, though.

This announcer was great as well...and I must admit to having never seen any official participant in a PBR event wear to willingly wear this much pink. That alone means he's golden in my book.
Clearly there was at least once 90-point ride...two to be exact...
Here's another failed attempt at getting my subject engaged in a photo shoot...
She was thrilled, however, to add a stuffed bull to her animal collection. Troubadour now sleeps on a pink pillow with his own pink blanket. I'm sure he's never been happier.
And, finally, can I just say that - if nothing else - the cowboy community has this teamwork thing together better than most. All of those straw hats came over to help a guy get settled on his bull before heading out of the chute. That was awesome, in my opinion.

I was a bit nervous for a while that Dave would get "the itch" again because he had previously asked me how I felt about him riding again. I asked how he felt about divorce. It was a short conversation.

Watching one of the cowboys get stepped on in the arena seemed to take care of that little issue so I'd like to thank the rider who willingly gave up his little body (have y'all ever noticed how skinny most riders are?) for my sanity.

Bo Update #862:
The big guy came home last night and he was seriously drunk on meds. After general anesthesia, a Benadryl injection and a morphine injection, he had absolutely no idea where he was, which is probably why he ran into the wall at one point.

The surgery went well, though, and we should have biopsy results in 3-7 days. For now he's on a Benadryl, Pepcid, antibiotic, anti-parasite, pain, arthritis medication regimen that is crazy to keep up with but he should be off of everything but the arthritis pill if and when the biopsy comes back with clean margins.

I'm pretty sure my husband looked more pitiful watching his dog last night than I've ever seen him. If the biopsy results come back bad, I just may have to sedate him as well. Let's pray it doesn't come to that...
:-)
